A fixture in downtown Brampton for more than a decade, a much-loved ice cream and lunch spot is closing for good today (July 28).

Little Shop of Ice Cream will be shutting its doors on Friday after 11 years of serving ice cream, gourmet grilled cheese creations and soups.

Restaurant owner Scott Upshall said opening Little Shop wasn’t his dream job – that was a gig writing on Saturday Night Live – but the customers and staff turned that around.

“It was an absolute privilege to cook for you every day. Thank you, ” Upshall wrote in Little Shop’s farewell announcement posted on the restaurant’s social media pages earlier this week. “I guess it turned out to be my dream job after all. Now, I wonder if Saturday Night Live is hiring.”

Little Shop will have its last lunch service from 11:30 to 3:30 p.m., and a final menu which includes; butternut squash and sweet potato soup; salami and tomato pesto grilled cheese; jalapeno popper tuna melt; and a Santa Fe chicken salad among other creations.

The Little Shop building has been in downtown Brampton since 1880 when it housed a blacksmith, and was a deli before becoming an ice cream shop and lunch spot.
