A Mississauga man won big after purchasing a ticket for a limited-time lottery game.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) announced in a news release that Amro Shehabeldin won $50,000 after purchasing a Triple Millions ticket.

Shehabeldin, who is a retiree, won the prize in the Aug. 29 main draw.

He decided to purchase two Triple Millions tickets after a local retailer explained how the game works.

The OLG game was available for $20 from June 20 to Aug. 29 and featured three $1 million guaranteed top prizes, three $50,000 early bird prizes and 402 additional prizes between $1,000 and $250,000.

“I went to the store to check some tickets, following the main draw on Aug. 29. When I saw the ‘big winner’ message come up on the lottery terminal screen, I didn’t quite understand what was happening,” Shehabeldin said.

“The store manager came over to help, and I was so surprised that I had actually won big.”

Shehabeldin has been a regular lottery player with the OLG for more than 20 years and this is his first big win.

His sister was the first person he shared the news with.

The winning ticket was purchased in Mississauga at Town & Country Market on Hurontario Street.
