The Brampton Library hopes to break a Guinness World Record for the most blindfolded participants solving the Rubix’s Cube.
The library is hosting several “Blindfolded Cubing” workshops for tweens, teens and adults to learn the skill. The next session is Tuesday, Jan. 9 and they continue through February and March, according to the website.
The goal is to break a record for “the largest number of blindfolded participants solve the Rubik’s Cube at the same place and time,” according to the Brampton Library.
Guinness World Records has many different records related to the Rubik’s Cube, which is also referred to as a rotating puzzle cube.
The most people solving rotating tactile puzzle cubes was 320 people in Hong Kong on July 22, 2022, according to the Guinness website.
The most people solving rotating puzzle cubes simultaneously was 3,997 in India in 2018.
The fastest time to solve a 3 x 3 x 3 rotating puzzle cube blindfolded is 12.10 seconds, achieved by Charlie Eggins at the Australian Nationals in Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia, on Sept. 29, 2023.
There are various other records, which involve people solving the puzzle while doing activities such as running or skate boarding.
