Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and for those still looking for a gift perhaps a romantic getaway is in the cards.
A new survey from travel search engine, Kayak, revealed that 58 per cent of Canadian adults in a relationship would rather receive a vacation as a Valentine’s Day gift than a physical gift like chocolate or jewellery.
The online survey was conducted by YouGov in January and February on behalf of Kayak and included 1,000 adults.
An overwhelming amount (84 per cent) of adults in a relationship think taking a vacation with their significant other brings them closer together or helps strengthen their relationship, the survey found.
And while Valentine’s Day is often synonymous with grandeur, rising costs and inflation may have many Canadians looking to save money.
The survey found 71 per cent of Canadian adult don’t consider five-star hotels because it’s out of their price range, it can feel out of reach on the romantic day.
But nearly half, 43 per cent, of Canadian adults seek out five-star hotels when travelling.
Kayak has a new five-star search tool that highlights destinations around the world that have five-star hotels at affordable prices along with information on the best times to book and best months to travel to get the price even lower.
The new tool helps “travellers find the luxury getaway their loved one deserves, without breaking the bank,” said Leon Mulder, senior country manager at Kayak Canada.
Kayak also shared five places around the world with the lowest five-star hotel prices.
Here are five destinations worldwide with the lowest prices:
- Hammamet, Tunisia ($125/night on average for a five-star room)
- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ($158/night on average for a five-star room)
- Medellín, Colombia ($175/night on average for a five-star room)
- Antalya, Turkey ($177/night on average for a five-star room)
- Bogotá, Colombia ($179/night on average for a five-star room)
