Tenants with questions about their rental rights could find some answers from legal experts in Brampton at an information session later this month.
The free event is part of the Brampton Library and North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services (NPDCLS) Legal Education Series, giving residents a chance to connect with and learn from lawyers and legal professionals in a casual setting.
The next event in the series will be focused on tenant laws and “renovictions” – a process where owners make improvements to a property, causing the price of rentals to climb.
“Whether you’re a seasoned renter or a first-time tenant, understanding your rights and navigating the legal landscape is key,” the NPDCLS says. “These sessions are tailored to empower you with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions and protect your rights as a tenant”.
The NPDCLS says the session will help enhance attendees’ understanding of tenant rights and give guests a chance to ask questions and connect with experts “whether you’re dealing with a current housing situation or just want to be well-informed for the future.”
Rental advocacy group Peel ACORN has held multiple protests in Brampton against what it calls ‘renovictions’ of residents, with its members calling for more affordable housing options in Brampton and Mississauga.
The event runs on Nov. 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brampton Library Four Corners branch.
The event is free but registration is required either in-person by signing up by visiting www.BramptonLibrary.ca.
