Le Chateau closing all Brampton locations

Clothing retailer Le Chateau will permanently close all of its retail stores, including locations in Brampton in the weeks ahead.
A mainstay in malls and shopping districts across Canada for more than 60 years, the Montreal-based company is seeking court protection from creditors to allow it to shut down and liquidate its merchandise at all locations across the country.
According to a press release, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the long-standing clothing store to shutter its doors.
“The retail industry faced numerous challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the second wave currently hitting our communities across Canada. Its already evident impact on consumer demand for Le Chateau’s holiday party and occasion wear, which represents the core of our offering, has diminished Le Chateau’s ability to pursue its activities,” the company said in a statement.
“Regrettably, these circumstances leave the company with no option other than to commence the liquidation process.”
In total, 123 stores across the country will be closed and 1,400 workers are expected to lose their jobs nation-wide.
The clothing retailer says it can no longer continue its operations, and that circumstances leave the company with no option other than to start the liquidation process.
