Largest Halal ribfest comes to Mississauga

The North American Halal Ribfest tour makes a stop in Mississauga this weekend.
The ribfest, hailed as Mississauga’s largest Halal event, is a 20-city event, which launched last year in Toronto, according to a press release from the organizers, Salam Events, in collaboration with Eventzilla Group.
The three-day Mississauga event is at the Meadowvale GO Station, 6845 Millcreek Dr. from Friday, Aug. 25 to Sunday, Aug. 27.
Ribbers include Route 55, Brickyard BBQ, Bubba Lou’s BBQ, Go Gonzalez BBQ, and Texas Jack’s BBQ Pit. Food styles include classic southern barbecue beef ribs, short ribs and brisket.
And organizers promise,”Fall off the bone deliciousness – Halal style!”
Plus there will be a variety food trucks offering halal dishes from different parts of the world. Ice cream, roasted corn and East African barbecue are some of the trucks slated to be at the Mississauga event.
There will also be live performances featuring a Nasheed concert, and a pop-up market with local artisans.
A kid’s zone will include inflatables, carnival games, magicians and entertainment.
The event kicks off on Friday (Aug. 25) at 4 p.m. and goes to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the ribfest runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, with discounted rates for seniors and children, and children under seven years old are free. A portion of the proceeds go to charity.
