Walmart closes after a flood in Milton

The newly renovated Walmart store in Mississauga, the largest in Canada, celebrates its grand re-opening today in Square One.

There are in-store specials to celebrate the reopening today (April 12) in Square One Shopping Centre, 100 City Centre Dr.

Last year, Walmart announced the Square One location would undergo $300 million in remodels and renovations. This is one of its largest capital investments in a single store.

The store is now the company’s flagship location in Canada and it is the largest store by square foot, according to a press release from Walmart Canada.

Dubbed the “Store of the Future” the upgrades include the first Walmart Health hub in Canada. The improvements will serve as a prototype for other stores in the chain.

The “Store of the Future” upgrades include:

  • The Health Hub will centralize the pharmacy, vision centre and medical clinic into one area, supported by the company’s new pharmacy app. Square One’s Walmart Health hub is the first of its kind in Canada.
  • There will be enhanced in-store experiences. Electronic product cases will be replaced by open displays allowing for hands-on interactions.
  • There will be technology-powered ways to shop. Customers will be able to see product availability in real-time, scan a QR code to place their order and experience immediate on-site delivery by an associate, facilitated by automation.
  • A dedicated space for associates to pick, pack and stage customer orders will create more availability for pickup and delivery slots for customers.
