Large Winners and HomeSense store will open in 2025 at Mississauga plaza

A combined Winners and HomeSense store is currently under construction in Mississauga and is set to open in 2025.

The frame of the large store is almost complete at Clarkson Crossing Plaza located at Southdown Road and Royal Windsor Drive. Sources say the combined clothing and home decor centre could be open to customers by spring.

To make way for the store, smaller stores that once contained Turtle Jack’s restaurant, Daylight Grill, Pet Valu and Water Land were demolished. Pet Valu has since relocated to another site in the plaza.

Owners of the property, RioCan, have been unavailable for comment. However, the RioCan website confirms the addition of a combined Winners/HomeSense.

Shoppers at the plaza today (Dec. 27) said they are looking forward to the new store.

“It’s going to really change this plaza, give it a boost,” said Hazel Spence. “That’s a big store and they usually do pretty well. I like that it is going to be a Winners.”

Another plaza customer said the opening of the store is the worst-kept secret in the neighbourhood. She said there are no signs indicating what is coming but everyone knows it will be a Winners/HomeSense.

“Just ask anybody that works here (in the plaza), they will confirm it,” said Ron Roman who lives in the area. “I miss the Daylight Grill but HomeSense is a great store for buying gifts and stuff like that.”

The changes have also fueled speculation about the future of the nearby Clarkson Village Shopping Centre on Lakeshore Road which currently houses HomeSense.

It’s not likely the two stores will coexist in the same community which means Clarkson Village will be looking for a new anchor tenant or, as many believe, the shopping centre will add a housing component.

Clarkson Village Shopping Centre has long been desired for its condo potential by both political and business interests. A much-ballyhooed redevelopment was to take place a decade ago but that plan was ultimately scrapped.
