Peel Regional Police posted on social media shortly after 4 p.m. about lane reductions in effect along the westbound lanes of Burnhamthorpe Road.
Officials have not disclosed specifics about the large gathering, including its purpose, nor provided an estimate for when the traffic disruptions will end.
Videos from Celebration Square showed hundreds of people gathered to celebrate that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad had fled the country. Many see the end of the Assad regime as a chance for freedom.
Drivers are advised to expect delays, use alternate routes and avoid blocking intersections.
