A gathering spot that has served as a landmark at the foot of Hurontario Street in Mississauga will have a different look in 2025.
The Brogue Irish Pub, located at the northwest corner of Hurontario and Lakeshore Road, is closing but will reopen in a few months under a new name with different operators.
“After 26 unforgettable years, the time has come for us to say goodbye to the Brogue Inn Irish Pub. It’s with full hearts that we thank you for the incredible support and friendship you’ve shown us over the years. The laughter, the tears of joy and sorrow, the birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations — these moments will forever be etched in our memories,” wrote the Donnelly family on Facebook today (Dec. 24).
The Donnellys, particularly Tommy and Sherry, say they are retiring.
The pub became the Brogue in 1996 when the Donnelly’s took over and has been a popular Port Credit hangout ever since.
Ward 1 councillor and Port Credit native Stephen Dasko was one of the first to acknowledge the Brogue’s legacy.
“This is truly bittersweet. I remember the day you opened the door at the Brogue, and always have a welcome smile from the Donnelly family. The food and the atmosphere have always been great,” commented Dasko. “From St. Patrick’s Days to Trivia Nights, meetings, celebrations, celebrations of life, incredible prime rib dinners, a place to catch up with old friends, make new friends and perfectly poured Guinness, thank you to the Donnelly family for everything!”
Specializing in traditional pub food, the Brogue added plenty of Irish flare by showcasing a variety of imported beers from the Emerald Isle as well as sponsoring contests with trips back home and going all-out each year on St. Patrick’s Day.
“It’s been a mainstay in Port Credit, it will certainly be missed. I can’t imagine our neighbourhood without it,” wrote another Facebook user. “I have to get in there for one last pint of Guinness.”
The Brogue will close its doors for the last time after Jan. 1.
New operators plan to renovate the pub which means it will be closed for several months. It is expected to reopen later in 2025 with a new name and menu.
