kids found no seatbelts brampton driver

Police have charged a Brampton driver after two children were found unbuckled in a packed vehicle after allegedly falling to make room for an emergency vehicle.

The traffic stop happened in northeastern Ontario when the OPP says officers from the North Bay detachment pulled over a vehicle with eight occupants on Aug. 5.

Police say they stopped the vehicle for failing to move over for an emergency vehicle, but while investigating officers allegedly found four occupants weren’t wearing their seatbelts.

Two of the unbuckled occupants were children and four were adults, police said.

The 40-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with two counts of drive while passenger under 16 fails to wear seatbelt, and one count of fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle – if safe to do so.

Four adult passengers were also each charged individually for failing to wear their seatbelt.

The OPP is reminding drivers that they are responsible for each person in their vehicle to have a working seatbelt, and that passengers under the age of 16 are wearing their seatbelts properly.
