Ketchup cotton candy is coming to Ontario this summer and although it sounds odd, the creators are calling it “curiously delicious.”

The limited-edition French’s Ketchup Cotton Candy is the brainchild of French’s, a U.S. company known for its mustard, ketchup and other condiments, and Canadian confectionary company, Treats for Us, according to a press release from French’s.

The candy is made with French’s Ketchup using 100 per cent Canadian tomatoes, and combines the summer traditions of “ketchup and carnivals,” the release states. The concoction is described as having a savoury ketchup flavour balanced with sweetness.

“I started Treats for Us to offer Canadians custom, locally-made concession favourites,” said Treats for Us founder, Laurens Gerlings in the release.

“So, when French’s suggested partnering to create something never done before, combining the taste of Canada – French’s Ketchup – with the nostalgic flavour of summer – cotton candy – I was in. We’ve created the soon-to-be iconic, French’s Ketchup Cotton Candy.”

Free samples will be available on June 27 to June 28 while supplies last at pop-up locations in Toronto at 55 Bremner Blvd. from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Leamington at 24 Seacliff Dr. W. from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Vancouver.

For each tub of French’s Ketchup Cotton Candy given away, the equivalent of two meals will be donated to Food Banks Canada to address food insecurity in Canada.

This isn’t the first weird food combination from French’s, in the summer of 2022 they launched the Ketchup Ice Pop, and other treats include French’s mustard ice cream, mustard beer and mustard hot dog buns.
