“I wanna celebrate you if you’ve been here for 50 years or two.”
That’s the message shared in a new song from Brampton recording artist Omega Mighty in her new track in honour of the city’s 50th anniversary.
The song is called ‘Celebrate You,’ and was written and performed by the Brampton native and JUNO Award nominee along with composers and producers Darryn DeSouza and Taabu.
Omega Mighty was nominated for Reggae Recording of the Year at the 2024 JUNOS and the artist’s roots come through in the track that pays tribute to her hometown with a driving beat and a triumphant horn part.
The Brampton artist will take the stage for the city’s 50th-anniversary celebration later this month for the live debut of the original song commissioned by the city in collaboration with Canada’s Music Incubator Limited.
Brampton’s 50th birthday bash will be hosted by JUNO award-winner Keshia Chanté, who is a member of the Brampton Arts Walk of Fame.
The City of Brampton was formed by the merger of Chinguacousy Township, the Town of Brampton and Toronto Gore in 1974.
With the theme of “telling the story of Brampton’s past, present and future” for the 50th anniversary, the city is holding a year’s worth of events across the city and a Brampton Birthday Celebration on June 29 in Chinguacousy Park.
You can listen to ‘Celebrate You’ on most major music streaming services like Spotify, iTunes and Amazon Music.
Brampton’s 50th-anniversary celebration includes more than just music with vendors, food, performances and the digital PIXEL Chapter: 50 Exhibition.
