A huge music festival returns to Mississauga and the event includes a free street party.

Ontario’s award-winning Tim Hortons Southside Shuffle Blues and Jazz Festival marks 25 years in Port Credit and Memorial Park this weekend from Friday, Sept. 8 to Sunday, Sept. 10.

Organizers promise a “spectacular lineup of world-class live entertainment featuring over 100 bands, both local and international.”

The event starts at Memorial Park on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. This fully licensed venue will offer a variety of food vendors and host an artisan market.

There are performances on two free stages: The Pattison Outdoor Stage and The Queen Bee Stage.

On the ticketed stage, The Brightwater Mainstage, award-winning artists including Canada’s David Wilcox, The Legendary Downchild Blues Band, Matt Andersen & The Big Bottle Of Joy, Angelique Francis, Spencer Mackenzie, Jack de Keyzer, My Son, the Hurricane, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, SheWolves of London, Suzie McNeil and the Chain Reaction, and The Last Waltz (The music of The Band) will perform.

On Saturday afternoon, a big street party kicks off at 12:45 p.m. when Mississauga Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko, Jack Rabba, Chuck Jackson (festival founder and artistic director) and Kristine Kane (festival chair) do an official ribbon-cutting for the free Rabba Fine Foods Street Shuffle.

The Street Shuffle along Lakeshore Road in Port Credit includes music, dancing and a second-line parade, reminiscent of the vibrant spirit of Mardi Gras, where a Dixieland band will lead the crowd as they march towards Memorial Park.

To add a touch of New Orleans flair, umbrellas and whistles will be distributed to participants to join in the fun.

Lakeshore Road closes between Stavebank Road and Hurontario Street for the Street Shuffle from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., “creating the ultimate street party,” say organizers.

Main stage tickets are $20 on Friday, $25 on Saturday, and $20 on Sunday. Weekend passes are available for $60.
