Mississauga and Brampton residents are encouraged to seek shade and stay cool as unseasonably high temperatures hit the region mid-week.
Mixed sun and clouds will continue into tonight with the risk of a thunderstorm early this evening.
Tomorrow (June 13), it is expected to be clear and sunny and reach a high of 26 degrees Celsius.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says temperatures will almost reach heat warning criteria for Wednesday and Thursday.
A chance of showers lingers on Wednesday (June 15) with a high of 29 degrees Celsius.
The low only dips to 20 degrees Celsius that night.
On Thursday (June 16) the temperature is going to reach 30 degrees Celsius.
But the humidex will make it feel like a staggering 41 degrees Celsius.
This will be where the heat peaks for the week.
The unseasonably high temperatures will continue into Friday but the real-feel temperature will be closer to 27 degrees Celsius.
Health Canada reminds residents to take extra care during extreme-heat events nearer to the beginning of the summer.
Watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include
- headache
- nausea or vomiting
- dizziness or fainting
- rapid breathing and heartbeat
- extreme thirst (dry mouth or sticky saliva)
- decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine
- changes of behaviour in children (like sleepiness or temper tantrums)
