Is snow coming this weekend in the GTA and southern Ontario?

Winter is quickly approaching as some GTA residents already had their first taste of snow this week.

The weekend brings another chance to see some flurries in southern Ontario.

Snow squall watches and warnings are in effect in areas just north of the GTA and the northwest part of the province. Some parts of the province could get more than 50 centimetres of snow by the end of the weekend, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Areas in southern Ontario impacted include Orangeville, Shelburne, Mansfield, Dufferin County, Muskoka, Haliburton County, Grey County, Owen Sound and the Blue Mountains.

The GTA will likely get much less snow. The Weather Network forecasts around one centimetre of snow on Friday and Sunday in Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Oakville, Burlington and Durham Region.

The Niagara Region and Hamilton could get between one and three centimetres of snow on Sunday.

There is a 40 per cent chance of flurries late Thursday evening and overnight in the GTA, according to Environment Canada. The high is around 5 C.

Friday is cooler and cloudy with a high of 1 C and a 40 per cent chance of flurries. There could be 30 km/h to 50 km/h wind gusts in the morning. It drops down to -3 C in the evening.

On Saturday, there is also a 40 per cent chance of flurries and a high of 1 C. A mix of sun and cloud is expected with a low of -2 C.

Sunday appears to be the greatest chance for snow with a 60 per cent chance of flurries in the day and a 40 per cent chance in the evening. The high is 1 C and the low -3 C.

Looking ahead to next week and the chance of snow continues into Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
