An injured snowy owl is now safe thanks to a member of the public and the OPP.

The snowy owl was found in Bayfield, a village on Lake Huron, north of London, Ontario.

Huron County OPP say they got a call for a report of an injured owl at 11 a.m. on Thursday (Dec. 28).

A concerned resident called police as the injured snowy owl was unable to fly.

OPP said they found The Owl Foundation in the Niagara Region  and they were able to send a volunteer over right away and transport the bird to their facility.

The Owl Foundation is a registered Canadian charitable organization that helps wild, Canadian owls and other raptors that are injured or orphaned. The birds are rehabilitated to a condition where they can survive on their own and can be released.

OPP officers carefully captured the beautiful bird and transported it to Clinton to meet the volunteer team from the foundation.

The OPP thanked the person who called and the volunteers with the Owl Foundation for their assistance.

Snowy owls live in the Arctic regions of North America and Eurasia year-round.

But some snow owls only stay during the breeding and nesting seasons in the summer and then migrate to southern Canada and parts of the United States, according to Canadian Geographic.
