A long list of charges including impaired operation and driving without insurance have been laid against an “excessive” speeder from Brampton, police say.
The high-speed traffic stop happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Monday when the OPP says officers were working traffic enforcement on County Road 109 in Amaranth, approximately 55 kilometres north of Brampton.
Police say the officers spotted a vehicle “travelling at a high rate of speed” and pulled the male driver over only to discover the man was impaired by alcohol.
The man also had alcohol “readily available” in the vehicle, as indicated by the charges.
Police say the 25-year-old male driver from Brampton was arrested and charged with multiple offences including driver fail to surrender licence, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), operate a motor vehicle without insurance, fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle, speeding and stunting.
The accused is scheduled to make a court appearance in Orangeville at a later date, police said. The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police agencies across Ontario are now conducting mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401.
Impaired driving offences in Ontario can lead to immediate licence suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundment, and enrollment in education or treatment programs.
