An impaired man hid in a ditch after crashing into a hydro pole north of Brampton, police say.

Ontario Provincial Police said that on Saturday at around 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of County Road 12 in the Township of Amaranth in Dufferin County for a single-vehicle crash.

Officers located a vehicle in a ditch, along with a damaged hydro pole, but there was no driver in sight, police said.

“After a brief search of the area, officers located a male hiding in a nearby ditch and were quickly led to an impaired driving investigation,” OPP said.

A 44-year-old Orangeville resident was arrested and charged with operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs, as well as operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration of 80-plus.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.

He also has an upcoming court appearance in Orangeville.
