Emergency responders narrowly escape serious injury after an impaired driver speeds through a closed off collision scene on Highway 410 in Mississauga.
Members of the OPP Highway Safety Division initially responded to the scene of a single vehicle, roll-over collision last night (Aug 20) on Highway 410/401 southbound to eastbound.
Police say a 22-year-old male was transported to a trauma centre with a life-altering injury while two other female occupants suffered minor injuries.
Mississauga OPP continue to investigate the cause of this collision and suspect speed and alcohol to be possible contributing factors.
While emergency responders were busy with the collision scene at hand, a vehicle drove through the road closure at high speed, knocking down cones and flares. Fortunately no physical injuries are reported.
Police immediately stopped the vehicle and performed a roadside screening where they discovered the driver was impaired with a BAC over 80.
There were also several bottles of alcohol in the vehicle readily accessible to the driver.
The driver was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle as well as driving while impaired.
Police remind drivers to slow down and pull over for emergency vehicles.
