A huge lottery jackpot was won in Canada over the weekend.
One ticket won the $54 million Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot in Saturday’s draw.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) said that the ticket was sold in western Canada.
The Classic Jackpot, which sits at a fixed $5 million, wasn’t won by anyone.
We don’t yet know the identity of the winner(s), or if they plan to buy their coworkers some pizza before saying goodbye and heading into retirement like one Quebec man recently did after winning big on Lotto Max. (You can read that story here.)
Lotto 6/49 has a Classic Jackpot with a fixed prize of $5 million and a Gold Ball Draw that offers a guaranteed $1 million prize or a jackpot that starts at $10 million and could reach $68 million.
For the Gold Ball Draw, it starts with 29 white balls and one gold ball.
If a white ball is drawn, the guaranteed $1 million prize is handed out and the Gold Ball Jackpot grows.
If the gold ball is drawn, the jackpot is handed out.
The next Lotto 6/49 draw on Wednesday has a $10 million Gold Ball Jackpot (or the guaranteed $1 million prize), as well as the $5 million classic jackpot.
Here is a look at the winning numbers for the Saturday, Dec. 28 Lotto 6/49 draw, according to the OLG website:
