A Mississauga woman and Toronto man face fraud charges after police say two people rented a Toronto home for seven months, but paid only two months’ rent.

Toronto Police said a man and woman rented a property in the Maidstone Street/Rustic Road area, near highways 401 and 400, between Sept. 1, 2021 and March 28, 2022. It’s alleged the pair paid first and last months’ rent, but made no rent payments for any of the other five months.

The two people “refused to pay additional rent payments,” police said in a news release on Wednesday.

“The homeowners looked to gain assistance from the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board,” but to no avail.

Additionally, police said, the man and woman provided fraudulent information to the board, “which prolonged the eviction process.”

Police arrested two people earlier this week.
