A home listed on Mississauga’s Heritage Register will likely be demolished.

The owner of 1495 Mississauga Rd. submitted a request to demolish the home on the property. The City of Mississauga’s Heritage Advisory Committee approved the request at the Nov. 12 meeting.

The home is a one-storey ranch-style house constructed in the 1960s, according to a report to the committee.

As the house is on the Mississauga Road Scenic Route, one of the city’s “oldest and most picturesque thoroughfares,” city approval to demolish it was required.

However, city staff said the home does not meet the criteria for a heritage designation. It is not a rare, unique, representative or an early example of a style or type. Nor is it constructed using special construction methods or materials, the report notes.

“It is constructed using common building methods in a style common to the period,” the report states.

A real estate listing shows the home in 2015.

In fact, staff indicated a “new dwelling and landscaping will be more inline with the character of the area.”

The current home has the garage in the front of the house blocking views and it has a wide paved entrance and paved front yard.

The property owner plans to build a two-storey house with a full basement and an integrated garage on the west side of the building with a single driveway entrance from Mississauga Road.

The home’s façade will face Mississauga Road and there will be space for landscape features to replace the existing pavement and to provide garden features for screening and privacy.

A rendering submitted to the City of Mississauga shows the plans for a new home.

A minor variance is required for the increase in gross floor area and lot coverage and a reduced combined side yard setback, the report states.
