Hollywood star Simu Liu among 2024 Legends Row inductees in Mississauga

To celebrate Mississauga’s 50 anniversary, six special citizens will be inducted into Legends Row, the city’s Walk of Fame.

The annual Legends Row ceremony celebrates the accomplishments of outstanding people connected to Mississauga. Inductees are born in or have spent a considerable part of their formative years in Mississauga or have made an outstanding contribution to the city.

The 2024 Legends Row Inductee ceremony is at the Living Arts Centre on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. The event is free but people must reserve tickets in advance.

This year the six inductees include a champion golfer, an actor, a comedian, a dancer, a newscaster and an NHL player.

Here are the 2024 inductees:

Gayle Borthwick

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Gayle Borthwick, is among the golfing greats in the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. She won her first provincial title as a teen in 1962. Her illustrious career is punctuated by an impressive tally of three U.S. Senior titles, victories at both the Canadian Amateur and Canadian Senior, and a plethora of provincial championships.

Pat Bullard

Born in Mississauga, Pat Bullard is a stand-up comedian, television host, and award-winning television writer. After hosting his own talk show in New York, he moved to Los Angeles to host a variety of popular reality-based television shows. Today, he is the executive director of Reba McEntire’s new sitcom, Happy’s Place. His career in Hollywood has been extensive and he continues to perform and call Los Angeles home.

Amanda Cleghorn

Amanda Cleghorn is a world-class dancer, teacher, choreographer and actress. Cleghorn graduated as a dance major from the arts program at Cawthra Park Secondary School. She appeared on So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Season 3, finishing as Canada!s top female dancer. She travelled the world from 2013-14 dancing on stage with Taylor Swift in her Red Tour. She now lives in Los Angeles and is a sought-after dance talent in Hollywood with an impressive list of career accomplishments.

John Roberts

John Roberts grew up in Mississauga. He co-hosted The NewMusic on City TV with Jeanne Beker and was then tapped to front Canada’s music channel MuchMusic. His career took him to the U.S. as one of America’s highest-profile newscasters. Roberts was with CBS News for 14 years, and served as chief White House correspondent and chief medical correspondent. He is currently the co-anchor of America Reports on FOX News Channel in Washington.

Jason Spezza

Rated the top Canadian Hockey League prospect ahead of the 2001 NHL Draft, Jason Spezza who was born in Mississauga, was selected by the Ottawa Senators. He made his first impact with the Senators, setting a
team record with 71 assists during the 2005-06 season. He played in Ottawa for 13 seasons, four more in
Dallas and finished his career with the Leafs in Toronto. He retired with 995 career NHL points.

Simu Liu

Known in Canada for his role on the acclaimed television show Kim’s Convenience, Simu Liu grew up in Mississauga. Liu was chosen to play the titular Marvel comic book hero in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. The movie was the second-highest-grossing film of 2021 in the U.S. This was followed by his role in Barbie along with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Liu is also a New York Times, best-selling author, and became the fourth actor of Chinese descent to host Saturday Night Live. He hosted Canada’s Juno Awards in 2022 and 2023.
