Holiday shopping at local businesses keeps Brampton economic backbone strong, city says

There are more than 90,000 small businesses in Brampton where you could get your Christmas and holiday shopping done this year instead of giving money to big-box stores.

With so many local small businesses and entrepreneurs in Brampton, the city is encouraging residents to shop locally this holiday season and support “the backbone of our economy.”

“From family-owned shops and restaurants to home-based artisans and service providers, shopping locally means supporting job creation, driving innovation and keeping funds circulating within the community,” the city says of local businesses.

And despite ongoing construction work in the city’s downtown Brampton, shops are open and ready for shoppers this holiday season.

The Downtown Brampton BIA has a handy directory of local businesses broken down by types of services so you can find the right one to fit your needs. And with free parking available, shoppers can explore the downtown core and discover new shops and restaurants while supporting Brampton’s small business community.

“When looking for holiday gifts, consider supporting Brampton’s talented artisans and small business owners,” the city says. “Handmade goods, local art and unique products offer a personal touch for any gift.”

Many businesses also offer gift cards, taking the pressure off finding the perfect gift for people on your holiday shopping list.

There’s also Brampton’s Winter Wonderland recreation activities like skating at the Gore Meadows outdoor rink, local holiday events and neighbourhood gatherings for you to celebrate the season in Brampton.

Free parking is available at the City Hall Garage, West Tower Garage, Market Square Garage and more.
