Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after seriously injuring a teenager who was trying to change tires on the side of the road in Brampton.

The two-vehicle collision happened on July 5 when a 17-year-old male driver was pulling over on the side of the road near Countryside Road and Fernforest Drive in Brampton, Peel Regional Police say.

The teenage driver was attempting to change his tires when he was hit by the driver of a silver-coloured Honda Civic sedan, police said.

Police say the teen suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash and was rushed to a local hospital, but the other driver took off from the scene.

The suspect was last seen driving eastbound on Countryside Drive towards Bramalea Road, but police say a right-hand side mirror believed to be from the vehicle was recovered at the scene.

A similar vehicle with severe right front-end damage was also seen in the area of Abitibi Lake Drive and Appleaire Crescent in Brampton shortly after the crash, police say.

The vehicle is described as a silver-coloured 2001-2005 Honda Civic sedan and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police.
