A Mississauga Transit driver successfully fought of a man who tried to steal her bus.
According to reports, the incident occurred just after midnight this morning (May 31) when one of the passengers tried to take control of the vehicle. The female driver successfully resisted the man, but when help arrived at the scene the hijacker made off in a transit supervisor’s car.
Using that vehicle’s tracking device, police made an arrest a short time later.
Accounts say approximately four passengers were on the bus at the time when the events unfolded. The location has not been revealed.
There were no injuries, but reports indicate the driver was “extremely shaken” by the incident.
The hijacking attempt is just the latest in a string of stolen vehicle robberies that have occurred in Peel Region over the past several months. Usually high-end SUV’s are sought by the criminals; this is the first report of a bus that was in use being the target.
Peel Police have not released any information about the incident.
