Highways and roads have started to reopen following yesterday’s rain event.

In total, 97.8 mm of rain fell Tuesday (July 16), according to records from Pearson Airport in Mississauga from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The heavy rain led to flooding on highways, roads, basements and a Mississauga retirement home.

Highway 410 southbound from Brampton into Mississauga closed due to flooding in the afternoon. Just before 3 p.m. yesterday, the OPP said the southbound Highway 410 was closed under Highway 401.

Photos and video show vehicles stuck in the flood on the highway. Fire and emergency services worked to get people safely off the roads.

At 6 a.m. today, the OPP said the highway had re-opened.

There is a closure listed this morning due to flooding. The Highway 401 eastbound collector ramp at Whittle Road in Mississauga was closed as of 6 a.m. today, according to 511 Ontario.

The City of Mississauga listed road closures on their website.

Just before 10 a.m. today a city spokesperson said all of the roads on the City of Mississaug list from yesterday are now open with Torbram being the last one to open at about midnight last night.

However, there is one new closure that was put in place around 6 p.m. yesterday – Courtneypark Drive East from Netherhart Road to Britannia Road East. The city expects this closure to be in place for a few days.

A few parks and trails remain closed as of 10 a.m. this morning.  Sports fields remain closed across the city.

The following remain closed:

  • Culham Trail – all gravel trails
  • Sugar Maple Woods
  • Streetsville Memorial Trail along the Credit River

City staff are continuing to assess the damage sustained from yesterday’s rain event and undertake the necessary repairs, the spokesperson added.

The Gardiner and DVP have reportedly reopened in Toronto.
