Residents who regularly use the 410 in Brampton are invited to weigh in on plans to make potentially significant changes to the busy highway.

On May 29, a public information session will be held in person at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Professor’s Lake Recreation Centre (1660 North Park Dr.) to generate feedback on a project that could see a portion of the 410 widened to improve traffic flow.

The session will specifically seek feedback on the preliminary design recommendations and potential mitigation strategies to minimize the impact on the community and the environment.

As for the project itself, the province’s Ministry of Transportation has retained AECOM Canada Ltd. to undertake a preliminary design and class environmental assessment study for improvements that will begin south of Queen Street and extend north of Bovaird Drive.

According to the project’s website, potential changes include widening the highway, implementing HOV lanes and assessing existing bridges, culverts, retaining walls, noise walls and other features. The study will also evaluate upgrading illumination and traffic signals.

The website says design alternatives for highway widening and HOV lanes have been developed and evaluated, leading to the selection of a preliminary “Technically Preferred Alternative.”

The site says proposed improvements to the corridor aim to ensure the roadway can adapt as the community’s needs evolve over time.

The consultation program will include meetings with municipal staff and council, emergency service providers, regulatory agencies, transit operators, Indigenous communities, and residents who will be directly impacted.
