SIU, man dead interaction with police toronto

The SIU is continuing investigations after a man reportedly fell from a highway overpass in Brampton yesterday.

Investigators say a Peel Regional Police officer was travelling southbound on Highway 410 around 7:30 a.m., when he observed a man standing on the Steeles Avenue overpass.

The officer headed to the scene to investigate, and at the same time, another individual contacted police to report the man’s location.

Upon reaching the overpass, the officer spoke with the man briefly. However, SIU says moments later, the man fell from the overpass onto the southbound lanes of Highway 410, where he was struck by multiple vehicles.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the SIU say. Officials have not released further information about the victim, including his name, age or place of residence.

Peel Regional Police shut down both southbound and westbound lanes for several hours for further investigations, causing significant traffic congestion on Highway 410.
