Ribbons and bows, where do they go?
Now that Christmas has arrived and the presents have been opened, residents in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon need to know what to do with all the waste.
If you want to get into specifics, the Peel Region waste sorter can quickly show you where everything goes.
But generally, here is a run down of what does where once the clean up begins.
Christmas tree
Artificial Christmas tree
- You can put this item on the curb for collection on your garbage day.
- If this item is in good condition, consider donating it to a local organization that accepts items like these for donation.
- Or, take the item to a Peel Community Recycling Centre (CRC) for disposal. Drop-off fees may apply.
Real Christmas trees are collected from the curb on select days in January.
- Check your collection calendar for your tree pickup day.
- Remove all decorations before setting out your tree for collection.
- Put real wreaths at the curb for collection on the same day as your Christmas tree.
Wrapping paper
- Metallic or foil wrapping goes in the garbage
- Wrapping paper with plastic trim goes in the garbage
- Wrapping paper with excessive amounts of tape go in the garbage
- Paper wrapping paper and can be recycled
- Tissue paper, crepe paper and streamers can be recycled
- Metallic gift bags go in the garbage
- Regular gift bags with the rope removed can be recycled

Gift boxes
- Cardboard boxes can be recycled
Ornaments
- If the ornaments are in good condition, take it to a Peel Community Recycling Centre (CRC) reuse drop-off area.
- If an ornament is broken it can be put into the garbage
Food scraps
- This item is organic waste and can go in the green bin
Christmas card
- Foil cards go in the garbage
- Paper or cardboard cards can be recycled
Tape
- Tape goes in the garbage
Candles
- Candles go in the garbage
Plastic gift cards
- Plastic gift cards go in the garbage
