Another 40 new automated speed cameras have switched on in Brampton and INsauga.com has the breakdown of where they’re located so you can help keep the roads safe while avoiding pricey tickets.
By the end of the year, the city plans to have 100 new automated speed enforcement (ASE) cameras up and running with 20 coming online in September and another 40 active as of Wednesday.
The cameras can be found in Brampton Community Safety Zones and will become a common sight on city streets as the city is getting closer to its goal of bringing 185 cameras online by the end of summer 2025.
Fines for speeding in a Community Safety Zone increase depending on the driver’s speed. The lowest rate is $5 per kilometre plus costs for drivers speeding between 1 and 19 km over the limit, ranging up to $19.50 per kilometre.
The upgrades have seen the city spend some $1.9 million on its new ASE Processing Centre, $91,000 for technology and new hires, and $300,000 for a truck dedicated to installing, relocating and removing ASE signage.
But those costs are expected to come back as the new ASE facility will bring in some $30 million in revenue per year with annual projected expenses of $13 million, the city says.
