As Mississauga residents clean up after last Saturday’s powerful and deadly storm that downed hundreds of trees across the city, they’re being reminded to properly dispose of debris along with their yard waste.

City of Mississauga officials say all waste removal in the city is handled by the Region of Peel, so people are urged to visit that municipal website for additional information.

To ensure your storm debris and yard waste is picked up on your scheduled collection day, officials say to consider the following:

  • storm debris must be separated from regular waste
  • storm debris and yard waste should not block sidewalks or roads
  • only paper leaf and yard waste brown bags will collected
  • a filled yard waste bag must weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs) to be collected
  • leave at least 1 metre (3 ft) of clear space between your yard waste and your waste bins
  • securely tie brush in bundles:
    • up to 1.2 metres (4 ft) long and 76 cm (30 in) wide
    • brush bundles cannot weigh more than 20 kg (44 lb)
    • brush and tree trimmings must be 10 cm (4 in) or less in diameter to be collected from the curb
