The Brampton Earth Day Tree Planting Event will be providing the food as well as an opportunity to give back to the environment.

Planting trees can prove vital to the environment, the perfect way to give back to the plant and contribute to the parks of the city.

According to the Earth Day Network, over 1 billion people across the world take part in earth day activities, making it the largest civic observance in the world. The organization hope to plant 7.8 billion trees by Earth Day 2020, one for every person on the planet.

“One of this Council’s priorities is to make Brampton a Green City, and Earth Day is a great opportunity to engage with our community and spread awareness about environmental protection,” said Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “I encourage everyone, especially our youth, to play a part in building a greener future. Environmental initiatives, such as tree plantings, foster a sense of responsibility and commitment to stewardship and conservation.”

While no prior experience is needed for planting the trees, there are limited spots available. The event will take place at at Norton Park, with barbeque served after the trees are planted.

If barbeque isn’t your thing, but still want to plant trees, similar tree plantings will be held at Teramoto Park and Claireville Conservation Area.

If you missed a chance to register for the first barbeque and tree planting, the annual scout community tree planting will be heald the following week at Valleybrook Park, and will include free barbeque as well.

The first events will take place on April 27, at 10am to 12pm, with the scout community tree planting following on May 4, from 10am to 1pm.

It will take place regardless of the weather, so volunteers should dress accordingly with proper footwear.

Shovels and gloves will be available in limited supplies, so event goers are encouraged to bring their own if possible.
