Here are the top cities people want to move to in Ontario and Canada

The top cities people want to relocate to in Ontario and Canada may come as a surprise.

Despite high rents and housing prices, relocation data released by online classified website Kijiji reveals the most popular place to move to in 2024 is Toronto.

With a one-bedroom rent averaging at just over $2,400, Toronto’s rent is one of the highest in Canada. Vancouver and Burnaby had the highest rents in the country last month at $2,761 and $2,566 respectively.

Kijiji looked at current Canadian city residents’ searches to see where they’re most interested in apartment hunting outside their home turf and found Toronto was in the top spot.

“Toronto was the hot spot, with Canadians and Americans setting their sights on the bustling metropolis,” Kijiji said in the report.

Other places Canadians want to move to in Ontario include Ottawa, Hamilton, Brampton or Kitchener. People from the U.S. are also looking at rentals in Toronto but Ottawa, Hamilton and Kingston make the list too.

On the flip side, Toronto residents are also looking to move and the city they are most interested in moving to is Calgary, the report found.

The study also found Toronto had the highest rental availability in the country, with 11,941 rental property listings. Quebec’s Trois-Rivières had the lowest average rent of $1,243 per month.
