Here are the rules for fireworks on New Year’s in Mississauga

Although fireworks will be part of the celebrations in downtown Mississauga on New Year’s Eve, you can still let them off at home if you follow the rules.
Under local bylaws, fireworks are allowed at home on your private property from dusk on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.
However, to use fireworks on a public street or park, you must have a permit from the city.
Mississauga has recently updated the rules surrounding fireworks because of noise complaints following excessive use during festive times.
As for safety, the city says to properly dispose of used or unused fireworks, completely submerge the fireworks in water and soak them overnight. Wrap the soaked fireworks in a plastic bag to keep them from drying out and dispose of them in your garbage bin.
To submit a complaint about illegal use of fireworks, visit mississauga.ca/fireworks or call 311.
