A heat warning has been issued for Mississauga, Brampton and much of southern Ontario.

After a thunderstorm watch on the weekend and days of smokey skies, Mississauga and Brampton residents may need to find ways to cool off this week.

A heat event starts on Tuesday (July 4) in much of southern Ontario, Environment Canada said in the warning issued today (July 3).

Maximum temperatures will reach the high twenties to low thirties, the warning states. While minimum temperatures will dip to the high teens to low twenties.

But with the humidex, it will feel like the high thirties to low forties.

The hot, humid weather will continue from Tuesday into Wednesday and possibly into Thursday for eastern regions.

Areas near the lakes could be slightly cooler than regions further inland.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category, Environment Canada warns.

“Extreme heat affects everyone,” the heat warning states. “Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.”

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion, Environment Canada says.
