Update: Hazel McCallion Central Library closes suddenly due to a death investigation in Mississauga

The Hazel McCallion Central Library in Mississauga closed suddenly today due to a death investigation.

The library announced the closure in a brief post on social media.

“Hazel McCallion Central Library is closed until further notice,” said the post today around 10:20 a.m. today (March 14).

Peel Regional Police tell insauga.com they responded to a death investigation at the library today.

“Out of respect for the person involved, there will be no further information provided,” a police spokesperson said in an email. “There is no risk to the public.”

Update: A few more details were released in a social media post just after 1:30 p.m.

A man fell at the library just before 10 a.m., Peel Regional Police said in a post on X.

He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the cause of the fall are unknown at this time, police said.

Police were expected to be at the library for several hours.

All programs at the central library are cancelled today. There was no information on when the library would reopen.

The library recently reopened after being closed for more than two years. Around $49 million was spent on major renovations and the library celebrated with a grand reopening on Feb. 3 this year.
