Handgun seized during traffic stop in Brampton

Officers seize a 9mm calibre handgun after pulling over two speeding motorcyclists in Brampton.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on Aug 11, Peel Regional Police were in the area of Veterans Dr. and Sanadalwood Pkwy when they observed two motorcycles driving at a high rate of speed without license plates.
The officers proceeded to stop both drivers in the parking lot of 200 Veterans Drive.
One motorcyclist was in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson M&P 9 Shield 9mm calibre handgun.
25-year-old Romario Sampath of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Careless store of a firearm, weapon
- Prohibited device or ammunition
- Race a motor vehicle
- Drive motor vehicle, no plates
A 26-year-old man from Mississauga was also arrested but only faced charges for racing a motor vehicle and driving under the licence of another jurisdiction while suspended in Ontario.
Police did not release the second man’s name. He was given a summons and released at the scene with a future court date.
