Handgun found on roof during flight from police, Brampton woman and Toronto youth charged

Two people face several charges after a flight from police over an alleged stolen vehicle.

The incident began when Aurora OPP officers, using the automated license plate recognition system, identified a stolen vehicle travelling southbound on Highway 404 near Sheppard Avenue around 4:15 p.m. on Dec. 29, OPP said in a press release today (Jan. 11).

Police say the vehicle did not stop for police and shortly after was located near McCowan Road and Progress Avenue in Toronto.

Two people were seen fleeing the vehicle, police said.

A short time later, a woman was found hiding in a stairwell and a male youth was seen throwing a black object onto the roof of a nearby building, police said.

The young person was then found hiding in nearby bushes, police added.

Police found a loaded Glock19 handgun on the roof of a nearby building.

Two people were arrested and charged.

A 17-year-old male youth from Toronto, Ontario faces several charges including carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a weapon, possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, fail to comply with probation order, obstruct peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and flight from a peace officer.

A 30-year-old woman from Brampton was charged with possession property obtained by crime over $5,000 and flight from a peace officer.

Both accused were held for bail.
