A suspect who fled from police while handcuffed has still not been found more than two days after the incident, officers say.
York Regional Police said that on Friday shortly after 9 p.m., officers responded to a violent, armed home invasion in the area of Ventura Way and Beverley Glen Boulevard in Vaughan, which is near Dufferin Street and Highway 407.
“As officers arrived, the home invasion was still in progress, with multiple suspects inside the residence and several others waiting in two idling vehicles, later determined to be stolen,” police said.
“The suspect vehicles attempted to flee, resulting in collisions with responding police vehicles.”
The individuals in the stolen vehicles then fled on foot after the crashes and one male was “quickly” taken into custody, police said.
While officers were trying to arrest the other fleeing suspects, the first one fled while handcuffed, police said.
Police told INsauga.com Monday morning that he is still outstanding.
He was was described as wearing all black clothing and was handcuffed to the rear.
Anyone who assists him could face a charge of accessory after the fact, police noted.
Overall, four individuals from the two vehicles were taken into custody, while three were arrested inside the home, police said.
A victim was found with serious injuries. No officers were injured.
Police said it’s believed the incident was targeted.
Of the seven suspects who were arrested and charged — one of whom was just 13 years old — four were charged with breaching conditions from prior offences, police said.
Anyone with information on the case was asked to come forward.
