A native of Halton Hills was the first overall pick in yesterday’s Professional Women’s Hockey League draft.
Sarah Fillier, who grew up in Georgetown and played hockey in Oakville, just wrapped up her playing career at Princeton University where she became one of the school’s highest scoring players ever.
The 24-year-old was selected by the New York team, which finished last in the league’s inaugural season.
Fillier finished her Ivy League career with 93 goals, sixth all time at Princeton, 101 assists (second all time and the most since 1995) and 194 points (fourth all time and the most since 1995).
In addition to her decorated career in US college hockey, Fillier has also been part of the Canadian National Women’s Hockey program, winning gold in the 2022 Olympics, and three golds and a silver at the world championships.
She has twice been named an all star at the world championships and, in 2023, was also named MVP and top forward.
