A 33-year-old woman who was shot somewhere near the QEW and Mississauga Road in the overnight hours continues to fight for her life in hospital while police hunt for multiple culprits in the bizarre shooting.
Peel Regional Police Const. Mandeep Khatra told media gathered at the Mississauga scene on Tuesday afternoon the woman was shot somewhere north of the busy highway interchange, possibly in the well-to-do area of Doulton Drive and Mississauga Road just a short distance from the QEW.
The victim was reportedly driving a black Lamborghini SUV with two other women riding as passengers when the vehicle pulled over to summon help from construction crews at Mississauga Road and the QEW just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.
The woman, reportedly from Mississauga, was rushed to hospital with what’s believed to be a gunshot wound to her head. Police did not confirm the nature of the woman’s injuries, saying only that she sustained gunshot wounds.
Investigators are trying to determine exactly what happened prior to the vehicle and the women making their way to the QEW.
Reports indicate the women were travelling in the car when they were attacked by three men, one of the culprits shooting at the women and critically injuring the driver.
Neither of the other two women were injured, police said. One of the passengers called 911 just moments after the shooting as the SUV came to a stop at the QEW.
Khatra told reporters the culprits fled in a vehicle immediately after the shooting. Police don’t have a description of suspects or the getaway car.
Meanwhile, the Lamborghini SUV sat on the road, doors open, at Mississauga Road and the QEW, by South Sheridan Way, most of Tuesday as police continued to investigate.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 905-453-2121 or Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
