A 33-year-old woman who suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot while driving in a bizarre incident in Mississauga two weeks ago is now in stable condition, police say.
Meanwhile, multiple culprits remain on the loose, the subjects of a police hunt in connection with the overnight shooting on Sept. 10 just north of the QEW and Mississauga Road.
The afternoon following the incident, Peel Regional Police said the woman was shot somewhere north of the busy highway interchange, possibly in the well-to-do area of Doulton Drive and Mississauga Road just a short distance from the QEW.
The victim was reportedly driving a black Lamborghini SUV with two other women riding as passengers when the vehicle pulled over to summon help from construction crews at Mississauga Road and the QEW just before 4 a.m. on Sept. 10.
The woman, reportedly from Mississauga, was rushed to hospital with what was believed to be a gunshot wound to her head. Police did not confirm the nature of the woman’s injuries, saying only that she sustained gunshot wounds.
Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened prior to the vehicle and the women making their way to the QEW.
Reports indicate the women were travelling in the car when they were attacked by three men, one of the culprits shooting at the women and critically injuring the driver.
Neither of the other two women were injured, police said. One of the passengers called 911 just moments after the shooting as the SUV came to a stop at the QEW.
In an email to INsauga.com on Tuesday, a Peel police spokesperson said “we do not have any further details about the suspects or the exact circumstances surrounding this incident at this time.
“This is still an ongoing investigation,” the spokesperson added. “The last update on the victim’s condition was stable, but still life-threatening. I don’t know if she’s still in the hospital.”
Police said earlier the culprits fled in a vehicle immediately after the shooting. Police still don’t have a description of the attackers or the getaway car.
