Gun charges laid against man from U.S. after traffic stop in Ontario town

Assault on bylaw officer leads to arrest, 2 suspects still on the run in Caledon

A 19-year-old man from the U.S. faces numerous weapons charges after police pulled over a “suspicious vehicle” in a small town in southwestern Ontario last Saturday.

Ontario Provincial Police said they received a complaint about a “suspicious vehicle” on Lock Street in Dunnville at around 2:30 p.m. The small community is located about 60 kilometres southwest of Niagara Falls.

Responding officers quickly spotted the vehicle and pulled it over for further investigation.

A short time later, a 19-year-old Ohio man was arrested by police.

He’s charged with:

  • possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm (two counts)
  • importing a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon, prohibited device or ammunition knowing it is unauthorized
  • occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 in Canada
  • bring into Canada property obtained by crime

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court on Wednesday.
