Weekend commuters should plan alternative routes as GO Transit has suspended all train service on the Lakeshore East Line for track repairs over the next few days.

In a recent announcement on its official website, GO Transit said the service suspension from Union Station to Oshawa will begin after 11 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 4).

Replacement buses will be available at Durham College Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax and Pickering GO stations, as well as the Union Station Bus Terminal. However, individuals should note there will be no GO Transit service at Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough or Danforth GO stations during the closure.

Train service is scheduled to resume on Monday (Oct. 7). In addition, passengers travelling westbound from Durham College Oshawa to Union Station on Monday morning between 5:05 a.m. and 5:40 a.m. are advised that their trains will depart one minute earlier than usual.

GO Transit says the track work is part of its plan to increase train frequency and introduce two-way, all-day rapid transit service across the region.

The transit company said that regular weekend service will resume on Saturday, Oct. 12.
