A 16-year-old girl from Montreal has been charged after police east of Ottawa near the Quebec border used a spike strip to stop a fleeing stolen car early Thursday morning.

After spotting the stolen vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 417 just after 5 a.m., officers with the Ontario Provincial Police Hawkesbury detachment took up pursuit and tried to pull the car over.

“The driver refused to comply and a tire deflation device was used to stop the vehicle at mile marker 3,” OPP said in a news release on Thursday.

She’s charged with:

  • drive motor vehicle with no licence

The teen, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 12.
