Get up to $400 in snow clearing for renters and seniors this winter in Brampton

Renters and seniors can get up to $400 in snow removal services to make clearing the powder easier this winter in Brampton.
While the city has decided to hold off on adding more snow clearing services to its winter arsenal this year, Brampton’s Snow Removal Financial Assistance is back and is again extending snow removal to renters as well as senior citizens.
The program allows people who rent homes and residents aged 65 or older to apply for a grant of up to $300 per home or up to $400 for corner lot properties.
Rules require the owner or primary renter to occupy the applicant property with only one application per address approved. The rules don’t extend to condominiums, as “snow removal is the direct responsibility of the condominium corporation,” the city says.
The city says snow-clearing is one of the biggest annual operations at the City of Brampton with some 4,120 kilometres of roads and another 1,015 kilometres of sidewalks on city property, as well as dozens of parking lots, thousands of transit stops, schools and trails.
A plan to bring more snow clearing services that would have cost residents around $100 in fees has been put on ice for at least two more years.
Brampton City Council was considering adding sidewalk snow clearing and windrow removal services to its snow removal operations this year with a cost of more than $19.6 million every year and a tax levy of around 1.4 per cent.
Sidewalk clearing would cost the city some $2.6 million annually for an average of $12 per year in property taxes per household, and $86 per year to clear windrows (snow piles left at the end of a driveway by passing plows) from driveways.
City council says it needs more time and input from the public before making a decision and staff say it will take at least until the winter 2026-2027 season to greenlight any sidewalk or windrow services.
With some 20 cm of snowfall possible in Brampton this weekend, you can keep track of snow clearing across the city and help avoid fines using the Brampton snow plow tracker.
