Full stretch toe save by Whitby goalkeeper Canada Soccer’s ‘Save of the Year’

It’s been a momentous year for Canada Soccer, with dronegate dominating the women’s World Cup, the retirement of soccer legend Christine Sinclair giving Canadians all the feels and men’s national team making a memorable run at the Copa Americas tournament.
The women stood tall through the scandal that plagued the program at the top and battled into the knockout round at the global tournament.
The men, meanwhile, ended the year ranked #31, their highest ever seeding as they prepare for Nation’s League and Gold Cup matches next year.
The women, still looking for a coach after the dismissal of Bev Priestman in the fallout of the drone scandal, have plenty to look forward to post-Sinclair but also lots to be proud of. It was the players who ‘saved’ Canada’s reputation on the world stage despite everything going around them, and when it comes to saves, there was none better than the toe save by Whitby’s Kailen Sheridan in a Gold Cup quarter-final game against Costa Rica, allowing Canada to go on and win the match in extra time.
The save is Canada Soccer’s ‘Save of Year.’
We heard you, Canada!
